You can help keep Jazz alive and well in North Bend by helping us open up our new performance center.  Yes, Boxley's is closing but the nonprofit Boxley Music Fund is going to continue supporting live Jazz performance and education, in North Bend.

Here's the big news:

  • We have found a great new partner to work with
  • Our partner will be taking care of all the operations of the restaurant and bar
  • This venue will be family friendly and all ages
  • We are going to be supporting the music for our members and the public

Here is the challenge:

  • We are going to need to remodel to make this space usable and bring it up to code for occupancy, i.e. we need a second restroom
  • We have plumbing, electrical and construction work that needs to be done
  • Plus, we need to buy some tables and chairs
  • We have five (5) weeks to get as much of this work done as we can
  • If we don't get all the work done in five weeks we can start performing in our new space while we finish

The estimated cost of the remodel is around sixty-six thousand dollars ($66,000).

Please consider donating to help us get this project done!

Yes Boxley's is Closing. But the Music Will Live On!

Dear Friends,

I wanted to make sure everyone knows what's going on, so I thought it best to write a personal letter addressing some of the rumors that are already circulating about what is happening to Boxley's. That way you get to hear it from me.

We have been running Boxley's for almost seven years now and it has been an incredible experience, however it has not been a profitable one. Personally, I am a jazz musician and not a restaurateur. As an organization, Jazz is our passion. So after much deliberation about ways to do what we do best, we have decided to close Boxley's LLC, the restaurant.

By not operating the restaurant, we believe we can focus on our passion for music programming and improve what we do best. In fact we are committed to keep doing music, and more music. How is that even possible, you ask? Let me try to explain.

You may or may not realize that all the music provided at Boxley's is supported by the Boxley Music Fund, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization we started about six years ago. We have many members who support the music, organize special events like the Jazz Walk, Blues Walk, etc. The music fund has been very successful. Not only that, Boxley Music Fund has grown into JazzClubsNW and is helping launch music programming across the Pacific NW with WJMAC in Bellingham and Tacoma Jazz Association in Tacoma. Recently, we even launched another successful jazz festival, the Tacoma Jazz Walk www.tacomajazzwalk.com.

Our strategy going forward will be to focus on music programming and look to partner with restaurateurs and other venues that are as passionate about their business as we are about music. We will partner with them, continuing to provide music on a regular basis.

When is all this going to happen? Well, we don't have specific dates yet. We do have some time remaining on our commitment for our lease, but it may not make sense to stay open for too long. We have already begun the process of evaluating our options and at some point we will pick a closing date, and party up until that date. We are also meeting with various restauranteurs about potentially taking over the existing space and operations at Boxley's. This is also a good possibility. The goal still being that we would be out of the restaurant business, into the music programming and partner going forward.

We are still doing the North Bend Jazz Walk this April 23rd. We are still doing the Blues Walk in September and still going to be sponsoring music until we make the big change.

I am very positive about these changes. Plus, the more I think about them, the more positive I become. I think we have a very bright future ahead of us musically if we do this right. And that is what we are going to pursue. We know this restaurant will be missed and we have many fabulous memories from this venue, but there is so much more we can do going forward.

I have already had many friends ask how they can help. The best answer is to become a member of the Boxley Music Fund & JazzClubsNW or make a donation to support our cause. And remember to keep coming out to Boxley's until we turn the lights off or someone else takes over. And then we will move on - with “More Jazz, Everywhere!”

Until then, see you at Boxley’s!

Thank you again for your support. It means the world to us. This has been an amazing journey thus far and I am looking forward to what the future holds.
